The Department of Radiation Oncology has been involved in academic activities for Post-Graduate course in Radiotherapy under the University of Mumbai and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. and now the Homi Bhabha National Institute ( Deemed University). Since 1981, 62 students have been awarded Post-Graduate degree (MD and DMRT) in radiotherapy and are serving in various parts of the country and abroad. A Radiotherapy Technicians training course for two years under the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) is also being conducted. The Departments also collaborate with national and international agencies in personnel training through exchange programs (e.g. IAEA, WHO). We also have regular trainees & visitors from countries all over the world for training in both teletherapy and brachytherapy techniques. In an effort to share current knowledge and develop/ improve the standard of radiotherapy in the country, the department also conducts regular CME's and courses on specific areas of importance.

In our endeavor towards indigenization and development of technology we in collaboration with the DRHR, BARC have been able to develop the first “Cobalt 60 teletherapy machine (BHABATRON) in the country. The Tata Memorial Hospital contributed in clinically testing this telecobalt machine. This facility has now been upgraded to Bhabhatron II and is undergoing clinical testing at present.
