Job
Title : Health
Economist, National Cancer Grid
Location : Tata
Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India
Job purpose
The
National Cancer Grid (NCG) was established in 2012. Since its inception, the
NCG has now grown to a network of 290+ cancer centres in India. The vision of
NCG is to develop and deliver uniform standards of cancer care in India. Towards this, NCG has developed
resource-stratified guidelines for management of cancer. A robust health technology
assessment is a critical component to enhance the value of these
resource-stratified guidelines. In addition, NCG is helping National Health
Authority of India to develop oncology packages for AB-PMJAY which need to be
guided by HTA to ensure meaningful universal health coverage. To support these
activities, NCG aims to establish a Health Economics Cell with a health
technology assessment core group.
The
health economist will lead the activities of the HTA core group, working
closely with national and international technology partners like HTAin and
Centre for Global Development.
The
appointment will in the first instance be for one year with the possibility of
mutually agreed extensions. The location will be based in Mumbai.
Qualification and
Experience
Essential :
- Masters’
degree in Economics from a recognized university
- Experience
working in the field of health economics
- First
degree from a recognized university in economics, econometrics, economic
& social statistics, or an allied statistics discipline.
- Experience
working in the field of applied health science, health systems, and health
policy
- Broad
appreciation of global health economic and policy research
- A
proven track record of working in a multi-disciplinary and
multi-professional work environment
Desirable :
- Knowledge
of health technology assessment
- Experience
of data collection and analysis for the purpose of informing health policy
and decision-making
- A
working knowledge of Indian health care systems at national and state
levels.
- Leadership
experience
Age Limit :
- Applications
must be of working age and not exceed the age of retirement (45 years)
Main
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Participate
in strategic planning of the establishment of HTA in the NCG
- Develop
a core team, organizational planning for NCG-HTA team and guide the team
in conducting HTA
- Contributing
to identifying and communicating with technical partners in the field of
HTA in India and Internationally
- Supporting
the Guideline Development group, team developing oncology packages,
collaborating with clinicians in identifying priority areas for HTA within
NCG.
- Lead
in drafting key document for the NCG-HTA, including Terms of reference
(TORs), Standard operating procedures (SOPs), HTA Methods manual and
reference case, process documents
- Leading
on the communication of activities of the NCG-HTA including liaising with
group members, arranging meetings and communicating with other partners
- Providing
progress updates on the work of the NCG-HTA to the convener
- Supporting
the NCG-HTA team members in developing and maintaining effective working
relationships with relevant partner and stakeholders
- Preparing
and producing reports
- Contributing
to the writing, editing and publishing of reports and journal aricles
- Lead
on advocacy initiatives on behalf of the NCG-HTA to publicise the work
including working with the media and other sources of information
dissemination, such as circulars and newsletters
- Respecting
the confidentiality of the work of the NCG-HTA
- Adhering
to NCG-HTA policies and procedures

prescribed qualification may not entitle an applicant to be called for an interview.
2. Tata Memorial Centre also reserves
the right to not call a candidate for an interview without assigning any reason
thereof.
