The NCI is a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH),one of eightagencies that compose the Public Health Service (PHS) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). It coordinates the U.S. National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and their families. The NCI collaborates with voluntary organizations and other national and foreign institutions engaged in cancer research and training activities with the aim of reducing the burden and death due to cancer globally. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) of the NCI coordinates the Institute’s worldwide activities.

TheAmerican Cancer Society (ACS) is the largest and oldest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting cancer in the U.S. and around the world. It’s mandate is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering through research, education, advocacy and service. Our work in India started over six years ago aimed primarily at reducing tobacco use. In December 2005, the Society launched the “India Cancer Initiative,” a comprehensive cancer control initiative to work hand-in-hand with public, private and non-governmental (NGO) sectors to fight cancer collaboratively through reducing tobacco use and increasing access to early detection, treatment, and palliative care services.

Indian Society for the Study of Lung Cancer (ISSLC)

The Indian Society for Study of Lung Cancer (ISSLC) is a group of dedicated physicians, oncologists, public health workers, social activists and volunteers who share a common platform to fight the increasing menace of lung cancer in India.It is focused on preventing lung cancer by promoting research, education, co-operation and mutual understanding about lung cancer in India. Ours is a young organisation that has rapidly evolved into a dedicated force of like minded professionals.
